TAN RUI XUAN GWENNETH

An entry on how my name was chosen.

TAN RUI XUAN GWENNETH

Remember it, cause one day, I may just be very famous.

Daddy and Mommy were very very excited over the news that Mommy got pregnant with me. The gender didnt really matter, though it was definately fun for the fearful first trimester to know if i am a girl or a boy :)

Mommy then googled online on all the myths and even scientific studies of the telltale signs of the baby's gender before the ultrascan shows it all.

Daddy wanted a girl... Mommy thinks that boys are cute.

Either way, they were both very happy to have me.

Mommy tried out the chinese calender thingy based on the conceived date against her age and the results was that she is pregnant with a baby boy.

Daddy said : "Harrrh......."

Mommy even tried counting a handful of rice... odd for boys and even for girls...

and its a girl.

(so, trust your rice)

27 Dec 2007.

Dr Yang asked if we would like to know the gender of the baby when i was merely 11 weeks old, Mommy blurt out a loud "YES."

"80% probability, a girl."

Daddy smiled widely and twitched his eyebrow at Mommy.

Mommy rolled her eyes at his mischief.

Then, they could already see my 5 little fingers...

Daddy said that I better off remained as a girl...

cause if i was a boy...that would mean that my penis is very very small.

....

Since then, during car rides, Daddy and Mommy would just blurt out names that they thought they would consider for me.

They did not look up on baby names books... just random ideas of names they have heard of and were nice.

Here is the little list:

"Sara" / "Sarah" but could not think of a way to spell it to make it look more Chinese.

"Natalie" its such a lovely name if not for the risk that I may just have small boobs when i grow up.

-" Gwyneth" Daddy and Mommy loved this name. They thought it would be so cute to call me Gwen Gwen as my pet name.

in case, i really do have a small dick :

"Aaron" cause Mommy would have married him and become Mrs Kwok if Daddy wasnt just as good looking

"Joaquim" not bad

"Reuben" Daddy and Mommy heart this name... Sounds sauve as a little boy and awesomely hot as a man.

so, over New Year's party at Uncle Allister's house, Daddy and Mommy decided that it was Gwyneth for a girl and Reuben for a boy :)

Subequently over the next 9 months, the scans has never doubt my gender.

A Girl :)

Mommy then went into detail to wiki GWYNETH as in GWYNETH PALTROW. (the girl on the spread of Estee Lauder's print ads) to only realised that its pronounced as

"Gwin-niff"

Mommy and Daddy as looked at the round tummy and called me "Gu-when-neth" for the past 8 months!!!

So, they had to decide if they would like the pretty spelling of GWYNETH and call me "gwin-niff"
or coin the word GWENNETH from GWEN + NETH (as in Kenneth) and call me "gu-when-neth"

and they decided on the latter as they really would like to call me Gwen Gwen.

GWENNETH it is!!

for my chinese given name, Mommy liked Rui En. Daddy thought it goes well with Gwenneth too.

They almost decided on it till they seeked for approval if its a good name for me from my Ah mah.

Ah mah looked up on her trusted book, passed down the generations and said that chinese characters with 3, 13 or 23 strokes suits me best. (it must be the olden character strokes : "fan ti")

coincidently, "Rui" was 13 strokes and it means auspicious
(by the way, Mr turtle shares the same chinese character "rui" with me. You will see my "rui" when u drink turtle soup")

but "En" was not... Mommy was disppointed as Dad and Mom both feel that "Rui En" sounds sweet and down to earth.

So Mommy dusted her chinese dictionary and fished out all the good meaning words with 13 strokes and tred to match it with "Rui"

they include :

Rui Ci (2) which "Ci" means generous giving
(not chosen cause someone commented it sounded like a temple)

Rui Yu (3) "Yu" means precious jade
( Daddy thought that it sounded like a boy's name and would keep it to use if i have a brother)

Rui Xuan (1) "xuan" is a nice smelling grss/flowers that is also called "wang(4) you(1) cao(3)" meaning forget worries

and so Rui Xuan :)

Dont ask me why "Tan".

You would have to ask my Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's... (okay... you get the drift.)

Who has probably reincarnated already lah.
