5 months and Im a puree baby!

Dr Yip said that I was growing well and Mommy can start on solid food for me when im 5 or 6 months.

On 18th Nov, Im a 5 months old baby and is 5.5months by weeks! (22weeks)

Its definitely exciting for Mommy to explore on all the yummy stuff that is offered on shelves for babies from 4 months old, but Mommy waited patiently before she was given the green light to make sure Im all ready to be a little grown up!

Bye Bye Milk Milk!

You shall not be my favourite thing anymore!

So, on my 5th month birthday, Mommy drove me to Novena Square for some baby stuff shopping and check out the mashy food they were selling.

Mommy had lunch at a cafe and an auntie who was clearing the trays came to play with me :)

I generously gave her a big smile and it delighted her so much that she came to play with me over and over again after clearing up the empty trays!

Ohh...Im am a friendly baby...

First, the cereal.

Mommy asked around and did her homework on the best cereal choice for me. Some were said to be nice smelling but bland, some were on the sweeter side, some organic and some not.

Mommy would prefer a nice smelling, very mild taste and organic ones for me.

So she picked HealthyTimes Organic brown rice cereal from a little organic products shop.

She also asked what were suitable for a baby above 5 months and the shopkeeper suggested baby biscuits which would relieve the gums that were teething.

Im not exactly teething, but i drool a lot and love sucking and chewing on my plump fingers, blankets and especially my shirt, baring my little pot belly often.

Mommy bought the rock hard biscuits for the fun of it and tested on one to see if it breaks up into little crumbles that may be a choking hazard.

Mommy almost changed her xmas wish for 2 front teeth from santas claus after trying my biscuit.

Here we go!!!

Please excuse my exposed Diapers.

My only matching panties were still in the wash. Mommy bought me a few new ones that very day.

Mommy yakked on the phone, arranging to meet my GongGong and PorPor for dinner at The Soup Restaurant later that evening.

...while i get very busy with my biscuit.

Mommy thought that the biscuit smells weird though... it was maple syrup flavoured but smells like hrmmm... dog food?

She advises you to buy the Heniz ones... they are less messy as the maple syrup ones stained my little white hanky and is tough to wash off.

If you need to know, they smell nicer too.

Next, the huge selection of PUREE!!!

Coldstorage is a puree wonderland...

For babies above 4 months, Mommy chose the brands which come in small packaging so that i can finish them within 3 days (which was the lifespan of its freshness after opening) rather than a bigger bottle, breaking it up into mnay feeds for a few days.

Mommy bought mainly Gerber and Earth's Best in sweet potato, carrot, apple and pear puree flavours.

Mommy also bought 3 skinny organic carrots from the supermarket for $2.50. She steamed half the carrot and grind it through the sieve for a home-made puree.

$179 was also invested for a hand-held blender from Phillips which promises to make many many more puree of assorted flavours for me!!!

"Erhemm!!! "
"Pureed Portabello mushroom served on a bed of Pureed Chicken and potato mud drizzled with cream of chicken sauce... and lightly garnished with mashed green peas please!"

ps : (cream of chicken is made by using the natural juice from steaming the chicken breast mixed with my organic milk and bring to boil.)

Envy huh!!!

this is how a meal in my ideal world would look like:

Thanks to Phillips would invented the mighty blender, my lunch would probably look like this :

Then Mommy goes shopping!!!

Blah! Boring!

"Wait Gwenneth... Mommy is choosing something for you as a present.."

Geez...really??

My mom bought me Guess jeans for my 5th month birthday!
Relax Daddy...Its on sale lah!

Mom~ you sure they can fit my trunky thighs? (*points at the triple folds)

Im with possibly the ugliest dinosaur in the world.
I meant that purple thing.
My Mom is as chio as me.

The cereal put to test!!!

Ahhhhhh mammmmm

yum yum

yum yum yum

yum yum yum yum.

I love it!
i love it so much that i would open my mouth and stretch my neck out like a giraffe when Mommy waves the spoonful of cereal in front of my mouth.
Ah ma would scrape and scrape for that very last drop of cereal from the cup for me, giggling and laughing away, seeing my desperate expression for more more more cereal!!!

my absence...

Dear folks,

Gwenneth Tan is nursing her face from a wave of Eczema, thanks to her mum, who happily ate Skippy peanut butter sandwich for breakfast for a few days.

My milk milk was laced with peanut and ive inherited my mum's lousy skin which is prone to rashes.

My pool of drool aggrevated it further.

Ive seen a doctor and i was given a disinfectant wash and some cream to apply on the inflamed cheeks.

Not chio already.

Please be patient and i will be back with plenty pictures, in beautiful skin :)

TAN RUI XUAN GWENNETH

An entry on how my name was chosen.

TAN RUI XUAN GWENNETH

Remember it, cause one day, I may just be very famous.

Daddy and Mommy were very very excited over the news that Mommy got pregnant with me. The gender didnt really matter, though it was definately fun for the fearful first trimester to know if i am a girl or a boy :)

Mommy then googled online on all the myths and even scientific studies of the telltale signs of the baby's gender before the ultrascan shows it all.

Daddy wanted a girl... Mommy thinks that boys are cute.

Either way, they were both very happy to have me.

Mommy tried out the chinese calender thingy based on the conceived date against her age and the results was that she is pregnant with a baby boy.

Daddy said : "Harrrh......."

Mommy even tried counting a handful of rice... odd for boys and even for girls...

and its a girl.

(so, trust your rice)

27 Dec 2007.

Dr Yang asked if we would like to know the gender of the baby when i was merely 11 weeks old, Mommy blurt out a loud "YES."

"80% probability, a girl."

Daddy smiled widely and twitched his eyebrow at Mommy.

Mommy rolled her eyes at his mischief.

Then, they could already see my 5 little fingers...

Daddy said that I better off remained as a girl...

cause if i was a boy...that would mean that my penis is very very small.

....

Since then, during car rides, Daddy and Mommy would just blurt out names that they thought they would consider for me.

They did not look up on baby names books... just random ideas of names they have heard of and were nice.

Here is the little list:

"Sara" / "Sarah" but could not think of a way to spell it to make it look more Chinese.

"Natalie" its such a lovely name if not for the risk that I may just have small boobs when i grow up.

-" Gwyneth" Daddy and Mommy loved this name. They thought it would be so cute to call me Gwen Gwen as my pet name.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

in case, i really do have a small dick :

"Aaron" cause Mommy would have married him and become Mrs Kwok if Daddy wasnt just as good looking

"Joaquim" not bad

"Reuben" Daddy and Mommy heart this name... Sounds sauve as a little boy and awesomely hot as a man.

so, over New Year's party at Uncle Allister's house, Daddy and Mommy decided that it was Gwyneth for a girl and Reuben for a boy :)

Subequently over the next 9 months, the scans has never doubt my gender.

A Girl :)

Mommy then went into detail to wiki GWYNETH as in GWYNETH PALTROW. (the girl on the spread of Estee Lauder's print ads) to only realised that its pronounced as

"Gwin-niff"

Mommy and Daddy as looked at the round tummy and called me "Gu-when-neth" for the past 8 months!!!

So, they had to decide if they would like the pretty spelling of GWYNETH and call me "gwin-niff"
or coin the word GWENNETH from GWEN + NETH (as in Kenneth) and call me "gu-when-neth"

and they decided on the latter as they really would like to call me Gwen Gwen.

GWENNETH it is!!

for my chinese given name, Mommy liked Rui En. Daddy thought it goes well with Gwenneth too.

They almost decided on it till they seeked for approval if its a good name for me from my Ah mah.

Ah mah looked up on her trusted book, passed down the generations and said that chinese characters with 3, 13 or 23 strokes suits me best. (it must be the olden character strokes : "fan ti")

coincidently, "Rui" was 13 strokes and it means auspicious
(by the way, Mr turtle shares the same chinese character "rui" with me. You will see my "rui" when u drink turtle soup")

but "En" was not... Mommy was disppointed as Dad and Mom both feel that "Rui En" sounds sweet and down to earth.

So Mommy dusted her chinese dictionary and fished out all the good meaning words with 13 strokes and tred to match it with "Rui"

they include :

Rui Ci (2) which "Ci" means generous giving
(not chosen cause someone commented it sounded like a temple)

Rui Yu (3) "Yu" means precious jade
( Daddy thought that it sounded like a boy's name and would keep it to use if i have a brother)

Rui Xuan (1) "xuan" is a nice smelling grss/flowers that is also called "wang(4) you(1) cao(3)" meaning forget worries

and so Rui Xuan :)

Dont ask me why "Tan".

You would have to ask my Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's Daddy's... (okay... you get the drift.)

Who has probably reincarnated already lah.

Playtime!

In the evenings about 5 pm, it is usually my playtime.

The time that Mommy would not force me to nap.

She would put down everything she was doing and give me her undivided attention for the next 1 and a half hours.

We would either play with my Leapfrog touchpad, read flashcards, watch my baby videos or if Im lucky, Mommy would bring me out for a walk.

the usual route would just be around the apartment compound and occasionally stop by the playground for a brief ride on the springy see-saw.

One random early evening, Mommy sat by the baby pool and splashed the water on my feet.

It was cold of course, but i kept my cool... in case she never bring me back there again.

True enough, she brought me back to the pool the next day and this time she sat by the edge with water at her knees and let me tap my feet in the water.

Chek! chicken feet!

So Mommy thought that she should gradually let me explore this new little activity, and who knows??? i may bug her for a swim very soon!!!

it then progressed from feet to knee to thighs and finally, my whole ass was in the water.

Mommy took off my diapers but put on my shorts for modesty reasons and hold me by the armpits. She would also rub organic baby oil on my legs and bum. An attempt to keep me warm.

I waddled in the water and it was fun!!!

Mommy was very careful to take things slow so as not to frighten me as this would have repercussion effects on my confidence to learn swimming in future.

Mommy wanted to buy me a thermal swim suit but they ran out of size 1 at Kiddypalace.

However, she managed to buy a baby float.

This float has a outer and inner ring which mummy believes that it gives a better balance so that the float would not topple over which can be very dangerous.

Reads : MY BABY FLOAT!!!

the float fits me well and i like it!!!

I would say bye bye to my little friends at the pool cause i need to go back and "chong liang" already

Are you following me home?? Yes..u get to see my naked pictures again.

Mommy would then bathe me in the bathroom with a showerhead.

No more kettle boiling!!!

Im a grown up!!!

My awesome Mom would make huge bubbles to make me happy...

Im easily impressed...

She would then shampoo and shower me in warm water so that I would not catch a cold.

After that I get a quick massage of body lotion to replenish my skin moisture as Mommy felt that cholrine pool water is drying.

Then i will get my treat of the day which is 50ml of fruit juice!!!

This one is good stuff... Mommy would drink the rest when the juice hits over 48 hours after opening.

Yummy!!!

the Gerber ones are tasier and the Heniz ones are very bland.

Mommy alternate the brands and flavours but apple always never fails to make my expression squirmish!!!

Finished!!!

Mommy could whisk me off to dreamland easily for an hour of nap as I would usually be really tired :)

My little Xmas tree

Ever since Mommy moved into our home in 2006, she has always wanted a christmas tree.

Daddy and Mommy have hosted 2 Christmas parties since then with no christmas tree!!!

This christmas, its gonna be SPECIAL...

We are going to celebrate christmas as a family!

Mommy had almost no reason why she should splurge on a couple of hundred dollars and then shelf it in the storeroom for 11 months in a year.

This year, Mommy really really really wanted it.

So that lil' Gwenneth can watch the tiny lights blink for hours :)

Daddy backed Mommy's idea and thought that it would be money well spent for many lovely memories to come, making it a yearly affair that we would decorate our christmas tree together.

Mommy recollected by faint memory of a shop she passed by a couple of times that sells xmas tree and decorations.

Daddy and Mommy love the green trees over the white ones...

Green trees looked more warm and cheery... isnt it??

Mommy chose a dense tree and opt for the one without the frosted ends.

She paid about $200 odd for a 7 feet tall.

"Mommy got carrot(verb) or not???"

She then spent more money on baubles and santa claus puppets and drove home happily with her loot to surprise Daddy when he comes home from Jakarta later that night.

Mommy put me on my high chair with plenty of toy and played Little Einstein on video.

See my blue Soda ice cream??

its a chewing toy for my itchy gums.

the blue cover keeps it clean!

My rattle in pokka dot green

Smelly beanie is still the best

Wait...beanie is second best to my thumb.

Looking intelligent with my array of toys

suck thumb

All the branches poked into the stem.

not an easy job.

i think the tree is blushing..coz it looks very naked :P

Mommy cut her fingers with the rough bristles..

Its boring when Cikcik Yani and Mommy ignored my singing and only cared about the tree.

I tried whining and complained.

I acted unconcious so that someone would come and look at me.

it didnt work.

It was my smiles and chuckles that melted Mommy's heart and she came to hug me.
